3 Youtube Ads hacks that take less than 3 minutes to apply

You know video marketing matters. Most of the content we consume is video. Social Media algorithms prioritize them.

However, many marketers still hesitate to jump from default options like Facebook Ads and Google Search Ads to richer and more engaging formats like Youtube Ads.

Today, we will help you discern if Youtube Ads fit in your marketing strategy and quick ways to deploy your campaigns faster.

Re-consider the way you think of influencer marketing

When we think of influencer marketing, we associate it with a scam, Instagramers, and nice-looking people posing with a product.

We think of influencers as those people with tons of followers and engagement in platforms like TikTok or Instagram.

Influencer marketing is about identifying the sources that influence people buying decision making and doing marketing on those channels.

The core of any marketing strategy is knowing your audience. Some marketers re-label that idea with “finding your niche” or describing a buyer persona, or in-depth market segmentation.

Whatever you call it, marketing starts at identifying an audience and what influences them.

In B2B SaaS, for instance, reviews websites like Capterra and G2Crowd seem to be a go-to option when it comes to buying software; it’s also the go-to option for marketers who want to gather reviews and build trust, whether it is optimizing their profiles or paying ads on these platforms.

For some, companies like Gartner are an authority to help corporations discern their future software purchases, and that’s why many companies work hard (and pay hard) to be in the magic quadrant of a given vertical.

And my personal favorite, Facebook groups, where you can interact with the people behind the brands (and not as companies) who are constantly recommending, reviewing, and upvoting products.

When thinking of doing marketing—and doing it strategically—researching the actual sources that influence decision making in your audience will make you stand out from all those marketers whose default tactics are doing Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and generic e-books.

While channels may differ, and some of them may be less sophisticated or fancier than others, one of them stands out: Youtube Ads.

Here’s why.

We know Youtube Ads work – Why we still ignore it?

Many marketers are reluctant to use Youtube Ads for mainly two reasons:

  • Doing videos is harder than creating banners on Facebook Ads or text ads on Google Ads.
  • We tend to think there’s a gap between videos and actual conversions that is called “awareness.”

While, surprisingly, video plays on Youtube are cheap, we tend to avoid them because we may find it hard to directly measure those efforts to figure out ROI.

However, Youtube Ads offer some great advantages:

  • You only pay after 30 secs real video plays
  • Sometimes, we ignore Google Ads goes beyond search ads. Youtube is the 2nd largest search engine worldwide.
  • Audience intent and attention are high; when browsing Youtube, users have a specific intent of information or entertainment, increasing the willingness to consume content.

And, more importantly, segmentation.

Youtube Ads segmentation

When defining the audience you want to reach, you may do it in many ways:

Demographics and location

Remember that Youtube leverages Google data, so variables like age, gender, and even household income are available criteria you can target.

When tracking your location, Google can determine your country, city, and specific area. For local businesses especially, you may try a geofence, rather than setting a city.

Detailed demographics

I can’t tell how, but you can also target by

  • Marital status: single, married, in a relationship
  • Homeownership: owner or renter
  • Education level: high school, bachelors, etc.
  • Parental status: being a parent of infants, toddlers, teenagers, etc.

Interests

Here’s when Google leverages your search history to assume your likelihood to buy or like something.

  • Affinity audiences: they’re broad and generic, such as interests like PC gaming and soccer.
  • Custom affinity audiences: they’re more specific; while affinity targets people who like music, here you may identify those who’re searching guitar.s
  • Life events: you can target people when they reach relevant milestones such as marriage, graduation, or conception.
  • In-market audiences: Google determines the likelihood of some people to be about to buy a specific product, based on their search history and conversions.

Topics

You may target specific videos and channels.

Keyword targeting

As done with Google Search Ads, you can target people who type specific queries on Youtube.
